The Sticking Point Has An Address

You have been working around it. A longer warm-up, a setup you keep adjusting, a weight you quietly stopped pushing. None of that is information. An hour of testing is: every joint, both sides, and what you can produce under load, each scored against a threshold instead of an opinion. What limits the lift is usually not the part that complains about it.

The Weak Link Is Quiet

The shoulder that pinches overhead is usually the part complaining, not the part responsible. When a hip or an ankle gives up range, the movement still happens, because the body takes what it needs from whatever is next in line. That borrowed motion is what gets sore, which is why the sore part is the wrong place to start.

The same thing sets the ceiling when nothing hurts at all. A lift that stalled, a time that will not come down, a side that is measurably behind the other. Training harder into a limit you have not identified spends months finding out what an hour of testing would have told you.

Nothing Torn, Nothing Measured

Some of these you feel. Others only show up as a number that stopped moving. None of them have earned the word injury, which is exactly why they go unmeasured.

The Hinge That Bites Back

Deadlifts and swings feel strong in the moment, then your low back lets you hear about it that night or the next morning.

The Uneven Squat

One side loads, the other side negotiates. You feel the shift, your coach sees it, and no amount of cueing has changed it.

The Lift That Stopped Moving

The programming is right, you are doing the work, and the number has not changed in months. Something upstream is capping what you can put into it.

The Tightness That Always Comes Back

Hips, hamstrings, ankles. You stretch and roll daily, and the restriction is back before the next workout.

The Baseline

Four Things Get Scored

Each test is scored against a threshold instead of an impression. Range, symmetry, control, and output are kept separate on purpose. They fail for different reasons and they get fixed different ways, and a body that clears one can be well under in another.

Joint Range

Hips, ankles, shoulders, spine. Where motion is missing, the body borrows it from a neighbor, and the neighbor is what eventually complains.

Side-To-Side Symmetry

Strength, balance, and reach compared left to right. A gap wide enough to matter shows where load is quietly being shifted.

Control Under Load

Single-leg squats, holds, and balance-reach tests show whether you own a position or survive it.

Strength And Power

Jumps, hops, holds, and your main lifts. Output is what tells you whether the range you have is worth anything.

The Assignment

A screen that hands you twenty findings has not helped you. The two or three that are setting the limit become the assignment, and everything else stays on the sheet as context. That is the difference between a report and a plan.

The Scorecard

Every test, every score, every gap between sides, in writing. It is yours, and it is what the retest gets compared against.

The Priorities

Not a list of twenty flaws. The two or three findings setting the limit, in the order they should be addressed.

The Plan

What to train, what to treat, and what to leave alone. If the answer is programming, you take it to your gym and run it there.

Not Everything Answers To Training

Some findings move with the right exercise. Others will not: a joint that is not traveling through its range, tissue holding it there, a stabilizing pattern that never came back online. Those get treated first, because loading a restriction trains the compensation instead of the movement. Functional rehab sets the direction, and adjustments, soft tissue work, and dry needling get layered in where the findings call for them. The screen you already took is what tells you whether any of it worked.

Where The Plan Gets Graded

A baseline is only worth what you compare it to. The retest window gets set when the plan is built, and the same tests get run the same way, in the same order, scored the same. What moved shows up as a number instead of a sense that things are better.

Either the finding moved or the plan was wrong about it. Both of those change what happens next, which is the only reason to measure anything in the first place.

The Right Fit

Good Fit

You train regularly, you have a goal with a number on it, and you want to know what is standing between you and that number. You are willing to do the work between visits.

Not The Best Fit
